Something Old, Something New

The title could easily be followed up by the words something borrowed and something blue. This would encourage the idea that I am about to speak of weddings, meanwhile dashing that hope and choosing not to. Today, you get to read something new about something old.

They say that moving to a new city is terrifying, but something a person needs to experience at least once. In this change, perhaps there will be a learning experience that will heighten our understanding of not only how much it really is a small world, but also in some self induced epiphany we learn something about ourselves. For some this is a new revolutionary idea, to others it is old news.

The revolutionary idea simply entails, not just a new profound way to view yourself, but a very singular realization that, although the experience changes something, it does not actually change us as an individual. When you travel, you are still passenger number 5, an ID number, ‘I am Insignificant to everyone but me’, and those that you have never met will actually care if you learned anything while touring halfway around the world in hope of self enlightenment.

Now, when brought down to simple numbers and statistics, it is depressing. To top off the fact it also costs an exorbitant amount of money to relocate, and you feel like crap after being in the air for 6 to 16 odd hours. (It was 17 hours for me). Yet, in spite of all this, the people one can meet in new places are totally awesome.

Traveling to meet new people and see new places can suck the life out of you, but in the end it is still new to you. All in all makes for a very balanced state of affairs. If, in the end should you not learn anything, there will be dozens of photos and many memories to leave a lasting impression.

My recommendation? Do what is new to you. Sure it’s been done a billion times over, but you only need to do it once to experience it. Although it is old, and this saying even older, I have said it a thousand times over:

“Never be afraid to try new things.”
